Your lighting is just as important as your sound. They are two factors that can either make or break your event. Now, to know which lighting is best for your needs, we’ll guide you through the most commonly used lighting types that you can choose for corporate, party nights, weddings, up to outdoor events.

Uplighting

Up Lighting

This is a way of placing the lights upward either towards a wall or a certain object. It creates a wash of color over the area that highlights the decorations and objects while adding depth to the event space. It is very important that you know the right wash for your event so you can achieve the perfect mood you want your audience to feel. When considering the roles that colors play in creating an atmosphere, you choose to portray a message, brand, and theme. Plus with the uplighting technique, you collect better memories and amazing photographs to keep.

Gobo Lighting

A gobo is a template placed inside a light source to control the shape of the emitted light. With gobos, you can beam your corporate logo onto a surface or add a layer to your base with patterned designs that match your theme. They can be static or moving, or they can fade in and out. It’s commonly used in weddings, parties, and even corporate events because of the contrast and added feel it provides. If you want to be more creative, use gobo lights as a layer after uplighting your event space.

Spot Lighting

While the previous two are used to highlight objects and help design your venue, this one’s purpose is to focus on a single subject to highlight. When you have a stage and want to spice up your program with a more magical effect, it’s good to emphasize your speakers and performers by spotlighting them.

What’s the best lighting for your event?

Learning the basics gives you a chance to be more creative in your own ways. We believe these three are the basic and widely used lighting techniques for any type of event. The only critical elements that every event planner should consider are the choice of colors and patterns to follow. So the next time you’re unsure of the lighting terms, just brief your AV partner about your theme and goals for your event.

It’s interesting how lighting can provide extra depth and atmosphere to a space, like using uplighting to highlight the decorations in an area. My wife and I are helping plan our daughter’s wedding reception and want to help make sure the venue feels right while they’re there. Getting the right lighting involved would probably help make sure it all looks great.
